Back to the Grind

Well, its been a busy couple of months, but slow on the mini painting side.  Recently got my studio back up and working.  Currently I'm knocking out dreadfleet, tyranids, and blood angels for one client, finishing space wolves for another and working on Malifaux and Infinity for Bud and myself.

Also I met Brandt at Toadkiller Miniatures.  Great guy, good work and quick.  Can't recommend him enough.  Hopefully I'll get some pictures up this week and get more regular postings done.

Infinity Now, Insanity Later

Warhammer 40,000 and Epic Space Marine were the belles that brought me to the ball, but over time, its become more about the painting than anything.  Since I've been doing alot of contract army painting, I've had to the itch to work on something that isn't a 40k army or for the local store owner's Pathfinder game. (As an aside, if you're in Michigan I strongly recommend visiting Pandemonium Gaming in Garden City).

Given all the time I've spent meeting clients at Pandemonium, I've been eyeing Warmachine and Infinity.  OldOneEye the main clerk is a huge Infinity addict, and given the quality of the sculpts I've given in to the peer pressure of starting a HaqqIslam force.

Given the frail sculpts I definately recommend forgetting about zip-kicker.  Your contact points are so slight that anything that weakens the glue bond will be a nightmare in the long run.  I started by picking up the HaqqIslam starter box, a hacker, a box of "remotes" which are small robots, and 2 other models with boarding shotgun and two shot missile launcher (panzerfaust).

Once they were based, assembled, and primed, I gave a very thin coat of vallejo Khaki to the entire force, and worked in the cloth parts in a mix of knarloc green and reaper olive green.

After that, I admit, I took the lazy step of shading with devlan mud to give some depth.  Given that dark brown works as a natural shade for khaki and dark brown/greens, this gives me a nice jumping off point for highlighting.

Before I start highlighting, I went through and picked out weapons in adeptus battlegray and all the leather holsters/straps in a mix of bestial brown with a couple drops of chestnut ink.  Also I started picking small details like hair on the two redheads.

Often I wait until the models are complete before I start working on the base colours.  For my HaqqIslam, since I was working on a brand new style of model and colour scheme I wanted to base get the base colour down so I'd know how it work with the highlights and palette tone.

With all my base colours down, I started working bleached bone highlights onto all the khaki.  Eventually there will be an extreme highlight of off white on all the bleached bone. Also at this point I've started working on the rest of the hair and tiny details spread across the models.

So that's the first 4 days of work on my HaqqIslam.  I have plans for finishing the army by the end of the week, at least the models above.  Already I've picked up a Ghulam Doctor to add, and have plans for some Hassassins.

The next step of course is tomorrow.  OldOneEye is giving me my first demo game of Infinity.  My expectation is dead Islamists all over the field.  I'll make sure to do a battle report.
